Women's Health

Women can suffer from a number of painful chronic conditions particularly around the pelvis. Chronic pelvic pain can affect around 1 in 6 women with treatments often being ineffective. . The technology used in the Rx Laser devices has been scientifically proven to help with a number of painful chronic conditions specific to women.

The number of women in Ireland experiencing difficulties with fertility is growing year on year with very few science backed home treatments available to help women. Low level laser therapy is showing very promising evidence in helping with fertility issues particularly around egg development and quality. It is regularly used as a mainstay complementary treatment now in many European countries as well as America, Canada and Asia. The therapy is extremely safe and we have designed our devices to make them very easy for you to use yourself in the privacy and comfort of your own home. Please read our section below on fertility to find out more information and if it could help you on your journey.

Endometriosis is a very common and painful condition affecting around 10% of women in Ireland. It is a chronic inflammatory disease where tissue grows outside of the uterus. The condition can manifest in different ways including moderate to severe period pain, pelvic pain, painful intercourse and sub-fertility or infertility issues. Treatment for this condition can be challenging and it often leads to women living with ongoing painful symptoms.

The technology used in the Rx Laser devices is showing very promising results in its use for endometriosis. It has been shown to cause a number a cellular reactions within the endometrial tissue which releases an opioid neurotransmitter and anti-inflammatory cytokine. This chemical reaction is proving to be very helpful in reducing pain and inflammation. In addition to this, regular use of this therapy has been shown to reduce the production of prostaglandin which is often what causes such discomfort for women.

There is some promising results in showing this therapy to be beneficial in reducing oxidative stress and at softening scar tissue. In some studies, its regular use has shown profound effects on tissue regeneration and restoration where it has been shown to increase endometrium proliferation and functional cellular capacity. There are also additional benefits at both a cellular and tissue level with regular use of low level laser therapy. At the cellular level there is increased adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production and increased activity of membrane enzymes. At a tissue level there is an increase in blood and lymph circulation and a decrease in intra-capillary pressure.

The treatment is extremely safe and has no side effects. The only sensation that people usually feel is a slight warming or tingling sensation.

The primary benefit of low level laser therapy in fertility is that it can significantly improve egg quality and function. All cells in our body consist of mitochondria, which is where energy for our cells is stored through the production of ATP. An egg consists of 200 times more mitochondria than an average cell. The reason for this, is that as an egg is developing it needs to produce an enormous amount of energy to develop and prepare for fertilisation.

From the age of 30 onwards our cells ability to produce ATP and ultimately give our egg cells the energy it needs to develop and fertilise diminishes year on year. Laser therapy has been shown to directly stimulate our cells ability to produce more ATP within the mitochondria which can ultimately energise the embryo to give it a considerably greater chance to fertilise through improved proliferation, migration and adhesion. Implantation rates of a fertilised egg are thought to be strongly related to mitochondrial function which this therapy directly impacts. There are some additional fertility benefits to laser therapy also such as promoting blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, engaging the parasympathetic nervous system and regulating inflammation.

It is suitable to help people to conceive naturally or as an adjunct to assisted reproduction as the stronger an egg is for transfer the greater the chance of success. The use of low level laser therapy is extremely safe with no side effects and has been shown to help with the following:

  • Egg quality issues
  • Low ovarian reserve
  • High FSH
  • Endometriosis & PCOS
  • Advanced maternal age
  • Upcoming IVF cycle
  • Miscarriages
  • Low sperm count and motility

There is very promising research emerging on the use of low level laser therapy in showing its impact in improving fertility. Mainly the studies to date  have been conducted in Japan, Norway and Denmark. An extended trial by the main pioneer of the therapy in Japan Dr. Oshiro showed 156 of 701 patients who were considered infertile became pregnant using low level laser therapy. Furthermore a report in Denmark showed a 66% success rate for pregnancy using low level laser therapy in women after at least four years of failure through other advanced reproductive methods.
The risk to benefit ratio due to no associated side effects is very favourable to including this home therapy on your fertility journey. We have developed a specific protocol for you to follow based on the best available evidence which we can guide you through over email or on the phone.

Sperm Health

Issues of sperm quality and motility is becoming an ever increasing cause of infertility for couples. Low level laser therapy has been shown in many research studies to be very beneficial to sperm production and sperm motility. In some studies it has shown an increase in sperm motility by up to 30%. The Rx Laser is extremely easy for men to use themselves at home and has no side effects. We would be happy to discuss over email or on the phone with any men who would like more guidance on using the devices to improve their sperm health.
