Other Conditions

There are many other conditions that the Rx Laser devices has been shown to help greatly with. This is both supported in the research and by many peoples own personal testimonials. If you have any questions about your specific condition one of our healthcare professionals would be happy to discuss this with you confidentially to see if the Rx Laser device could be helpful to you. Please read below some of the specific conditions that the Rx Laser has been shown to help with:

Plantar Fasciitis

Plantar fasciitis is a painful foot condition that affects many people. It usually involves pain in the heel or the arch of your foot and especially worse when walking. The cause of this condition is when the band of tissue that connects your heel to your toes known as the plantar fascia gets strained and inflamed. This can happen for a number of reasons such as the way you walk, you have recently become more active or increase in your weight.

The Rx Laser device can help significantly to reduce the inflammation around the plantar fascia, accelerate the healing of the strained fascia and get you back walking again pain free very quickly. It also helps reduce the irritation and sensitivity around the heel spur which often comes with plantar fasciitis also.

Brief look at the research to support this therapy for plantar fasciitis:

British Medical Journal (2022)

  • Efficacy of low-level laser therapy in patients with lower extremity tendinopathy or plantar fasciitis: systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
  • A total of 784 patients were reviewed in the analysis
  • Conclusion:

“  LLLT significantly reduces pain and disability in lower extremity tendinopathy and plantar fasciitis in the short and medium term. Long-term data were not available “

Medicine Journal (2019)

  • Efficacy of low-level laser therapy in plantar fasciitis. A systematic review and meta-analysis.
  • Reviewed a total of 274 patients with plantar fasciitis
  • Conclusion:

“  This meta-analysis indicates that the low level laser therapy in patients with plantar fasciitis significantly relieves the heel pain and the excellent efficacy lasts for 3 months after treatment “

Carpel Tunnel Syndrome

Carpel tunnel syndrome is a common condition that causes numbness, tingling and pain in the forearm, wrist and hand. It happens when the median nerve in the wrist gets compressed or squeezed and often gets worse over time.

Wearing a splint and doing certain exercises can help with this condition however, when the nerve gets compressed it causes inflammation around that area which is what causes a lot of the pain. The Rx Laser can give huge relief by eliminating the inflammation at the area of the nerve compression.

Effectiveness of low level laser on carpel tunnel syndrome

  • Medicine Journal 2016
  • Reviewed 7 different randomised control trials which included over 500 people
  • Conclusion:

” The study revealed that low level laser improved hand grip and reduced pain at the three month follow up for people with mild and moderate carpel tunnel syndrome ”

Dental pain

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ / Jaw Pain)

Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMJs) encompass a wide array of ailments affecting the temporomandibular joint (Jaw area) including the muscles of mastication and the allied structural framework. Myofascial pain, internal derangement of the joint, and degenerative joint diseases constitute the majority of TMJ pain.

The Rx Laser device exerts a photochemical effect which helps via numerous mechanisms of action, including facilitating the release of endogenous opioids, augmenting tissue repair and cellular respiration, increasing vasodilatation and pain threshold, and decreasing inflammation.

Medical Review

Efficacy of low-level laser therapy in temporomandibular disorders: A systematic review

Reviewed 13 different research studies and concluded that ” Our results have shown that LLLT seems to be effective in reducing pain in TMD’s. It may be a treatment option for patients with an interest in a noninvasive, complementary therapy ”

Low-level laser therapy in temporomandibular joint disorders: a systematic review (2021)

The results demonstrate that LLLT appears to be efficient in diminishing TMD pain with variable effects on the outcome of secondary parameters. Also, LLLT provides advantages as the therapeutic regimen is non-invasive, reversible, with fewer adverse effects, and may also improve the psychological and emotional aspects associated with TMDs. Therefore, this systematic review highlights the role of LLLT as a promising therapeutic regimen for TMDs.

Skin Conditions

Low level laser therapy has become increasingly popular as a non invasive, long lasting solution for healthy skin. It does not create a thermal response, i.e. create heat within the skin tissue or epidermis but instead the laser triggers a biological response in the skin cells making the skin stronger and healthier. Our Rx Laser devices allow you to treat your skin conditions from the comfort and privacy of your own home. It has been shown to beneficial for a number of specific skin conditions:

Acne and acne scars

Laser therapy is widely used to treat acne and acne scars and has been approved by the FDA in America. Low Level Laser wavelengths create healing deep in the epidermis, encouraging the growth of new healthy cells to replace the acne and acne scars. There are many research articles proving the efficacy of low level laser in significantly improving acne after 6 weeks of regular use.

Eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis

Laser Therapy is also used to treat skin conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis, even stubborn conditions that may not have cleared previously with the use of medications and topical ointments. Again the process of rejuvenation takes place as the result of a biological process in the skin cells, creating long lasting results.

Nail Fungus

Low level laser therapy is showing extremely positive results for treating toenail and nail fungus (onychomycosis). The efficacy of the technology has been proven by multiple high quality studies. There is no associated pain or reported side effects, and the technology is very safe and can give a real and proven alternative to months of medication to treat the infection.

The Rx Laser targets onychomycosis through the use of two different wavelengths which triggers a photochemical reaction, producing Reactive Oxygen Species which is converted to Hydrogen Peroxide – a natural antiseptic that kills onychomycosis. In addition, the red 650nm wavelength induces the production of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) which is converted to Nitric Oxide – aiding the natural immune response in fighting the infection.

Shoulder Pain

Shoulder pain and injuries such as tendinitis, frozen shoulder, impingement or rotator cuff injuries can be extremely uncomfortable and disabling and people often suffer on with it for long periods. It can be a difficult issue to treat and it often does not respond well to medications or conservative treatments.

Low level laser therapy has been shown to reduce to significantly reduce the pain and inflammation in the shoulder joint and surrounding tissue allowing you to get moving the shoulder again pain free. Exercise is also an important treatment for helping shoulder pain, however, some studies have shown that when exercise therapy is combine with laser therapy it gives far greater results for shoulder pain.

Wound & Fracture Healing

Wounds such as abrasions, ulcers, burns and surgical incisions or scar tissue can often become a problem in getting them to heal properly. Low level laser therapy has been shown to enhance healing contraction of the surrounding tissue. The research shows that the use of low level laser therapy had significant improvements in wound healing in the majority of cases. Here is an example of a study:

Veterinary

Low level laser therapy offers a drug free alternative to Vets and pet owners to manage their animals pain, recovery and function. Veterinary laser therapy is an innovative treatment that has gained popularity in recent years as veterinarians discover its benefits for pets.

The Rx Laser helps tissue repair by causing the following:

  • Endorphin release
  • Vasodilation, which increases blood flow to bring in oxygen and cells involved in the healing process
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Faster healing and repair

The main clinical benefits of laser use in pets include decreased inflammation, decreased pain, and improved wound healing. The Rx Laser Pad can be strapped in place using the holder and velcro to allow full uninterrupted treatment even if the animal moves around.

Lymphoedema & Swelling

Breast cancer related lymphedema is a a common complication secondary to cancer treatment which can significantly impact the physical and psychological health of cancer survivors. It has been historically a difficult issue to treat but there is now growing evidence in the use of low level laser therapy to help with this condition.
